Louise Simmons

Louise Simmons , Scaravelli Yoga
I came to yoga through performance arts and a fascination with the body/mind/breath connection. I studied Iyengar yoga in India in the 80’s and spent time in solitary retreat; over-wintering in the Himalyan kingdom of Ladakh awakened me to our deep connection with all that is alive in our universe.
I travelled to the Findhorn Foundation in Northern Scotland in 1990 and began to share my yoga. I qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga as a teacher and with the Yoga Biomedical Trust as a yoga therapist, but it was when I met my mentor,
Diane Long (a primary student of Vanda Scaravelli ‘Awakening the Spine’) that the potential of yoga freed from ‘method’ came alive. It was an experience of “coming home” and brought about a radical healing of chronic health problems. I have been exploring and sharing this revolutionary approach to yoga since, travelling internationally, offering workshops, classes and individual tuition. I consider my primary homes to be the Findhorn Community in Scotland and Orcas Island, WA in the Pacific North-West.

I passionately believe that everyone can benefit from the exploration of creative process in our bodies, constantly renewing, going deeper and deeper into the magically intense wisdom of a body freed from the limitations of always being asked to ‘obey’. I invite you to rediscover the intelligence of the spine and the lively balance between structure and freedom. Join me in a yoga practice of joy, delight and playfulness.
I bring to the mat insights gained too from my love of sailing and flying and watching the movements that nature reveals.
My love and respect for our bodies, all life, and the greater body of this beautiful planet continues to grow.
